The main focus of my research program is to determine the biology of the cytokines interferon gamma (IFN-???) and interleukin 4 (IL-4) and the transcription factor Stat1 and Stat6 that they activate respectively. One of the primary focuses of the Goenka lab is to determine the molecular mechanisms for transcription regulation mediated by STAT transcription factors, particularly Stat6 and Stat1. We are interested in identifying the roles of these factors in B and T helper cell function, particularly the role they play in lung diseases such as asthma and respiratory viral infections.
