The Spaeth Lab focuses on the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus and islet cell function, with emphasis on understanding how coregulators modulate the activities of islet-enriched transcription factors under normal and pathophysiological settings of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Specifically, the lab is interested in the Pancreas and Duodenal Homeobox 1 (Pdx1) transcription factor, previously shown to be essential for pancreatogenesis, islet beta cell development and function.
