Dr. Kang’s research interests are in transportation engineering and safety, which include: i) advanced traffic operations and congestion management; ii) artificial intelligence in traffic management and transportation infrastructure design; iii) accident analysis and modeling; iv) transportation system evaluation.
He has expertise in quantitative methods in transportation engineering involving mathematical modeling and optimization; Artificial Intelligent (AI)-based optimization techniques. He also has extensive experience in simulation-based traffic safety and operation of highways and intersections.
