Expertise

I am a freshwater ecologist with broad interests in community ecology, ecosystem structure and function, and conservation biology. I primarily study fish and mussels. My research addresses two basic themes: 1) identifying processes driving species diversity and habitat associations; 2) how global change influences the relationship between animal diversity and freshwater ecosystem function.

Research:

  • Nowhere to swim! Drought effects on stream fishes and animal-mediated nutrient cycling
  • Overlapping animal hotspots: When and where do fish and mussels overlap?
  • Mussel dimensions of biodiversity
  • Ecological and morphological variation of darters among stream assemblages
