Expertise

Her primary research interests are focused on the intersection of hazards, vulnerability, and risk decision making. Specific interests include the human dimension of climate change, environmental risk perceptions, community resilience to environmental hazards,  social response to hazards, and hazards and public health. Dr. Shao applies many quantitative methods in her research, including geospatial analysis and statistical analysis.

She has worked with scientists in a wide range of fields, including climatology, civil and environmental engineering, political science, sociology, public policy, communication, statistics, and economics.

My research is at the intersection of hazards, vulnerability, and risk decision making. Specific interests include: human dimension of climate change, community resilience to disasters, social response to hazards, and hazards and public health.

My major research interest is focused on the human-environment interactions at various geographic scale

Specific interests include: human dimension of climate change, environmental risk perceptions,  community resilience to disasters, social response to hydrological hazards, and hazards and public health. During the public health crisis of COVID-19, I and my coauthor have extensively studied risk perceptions, mask wearing behavior, general response, and public support for COVID-19 mitigation measures.
