The Kiedrowski Laboratory is focused on investigating epithelial biology and polymicrobial interactions in chronic respiratory diseases, particularly in cystic fibrosis (CF) and chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). We use airway epithelial cell co-culture models and other in vitro model systems to ask how the host airway environment influences microbial behavior in multi-species communities and how host-microbe interactions can affect bacterial pathogenicity, persistence and antimicrobial tolerance.
