He has extensive experience in finite element modeling, aeroelasticity, structural dynamics, and structure optimization. Su’s research interests include aeroelasticity, flight dynamics, and control of flexible aircraft. Recently, he has focused on nonlinear aeroelasticity and control synthesis of flexible mission-adaptive aircraft, with adaptive and multifunctional structures and sensing technologies. He is also engaged in the design and analysis of novel Urban Air Mobility, or UAM, vehicles.

Research Interests

  • Structural dynamics, fixed-wing aircraft aeroelasticity, flight dynamics and control of flexible aircraft,
  • mission adaptive morphing aircraft, active aeroelastic tailoring and control, adaptive and multifunctional structures,
  • dynamics and control of flexible launch vehicles and space structures,
  • aeroelasticity and flight dynamics of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV)

Our current research projects include nonlinear aeroelasticity and flight dynamics of highly flexible aircraft with integrated multi-functional wings, performance optimization and control of mission adaptive aircraft, and analysis of morphing aircraft with variable compliant wing cambers. Additionally, we have extended our structural dynamics research to the astronautics region, such as the real-time simulation and control of flexible launch vehicles.
