Research Interests:  Atmospheric Hazards and Applied Climatology

Interests:

  • Hurricanes:  How do physical storm factors influence decision making, and how do people receive and perceive information?  I use land-falling hurricanes as valuable field experiences to collect data on societal perception of the event and compare that perception to the meteorological forecast.
  • Tornadoes:  I am analyzing many layers of tornado hazard perception and awareness with an emphasis on improving meteorological risk communication prior to tornado outbreaks.
  • Climatology:  I am interested in all aspects of Climatology, but the bulk of my research here is focused upon detecting climate change trends and developing classification schemes to better understand societal implications for human health and water resources.

Subject areas:

  • Physical Geography
    • Climatology: atmospheric hazards, applied climatology
