Our research efforts primarily focus on developing and applying electrochemistry and optical spectroscopy techniques for clean energy harvesting, conversion, and storage. The group is currently developing well-defined functional electrode materials of metallic nanocrystals with synergistic functions, inorganic/conjugated polymer and small organic molecule semiconductor nanostructures.

More recently published work from our group shows interesting surface enhancement of solar water splitting and photocurrent switching characteristics of metal oxide electrode functionalized with plasmonic nanostructures.  

Research Interests:

  • Carbon dioxide reduction and water splitting for chemical fuels
  • Spectroelectrochemistry studies of surfaces and interfaces of heterogeneous catalysts
  • Scanning electrochemistry microscopy for batteries and photocatalysts
  • Plasmonic and 2D materials.

Dr. Pan’s research efforts primarily focus on developing multicomponent functional materials for efficient light energy absorption, charge separation, charge transport, and solar fuel conversion. His research also involves the development of a single molecule and single nanoparticle spectroelectrochemistry technique that combines methods of electrochemistry and high-resolution optical imaging for electrochemical studies with improved transient, spectral, and spatial resolution.
