Our research in applied forest ecology is wide ranging, but we place special emphasis on forest stand dynamics and forest disturbance ecology. The lab is also committed to high quality instruction of courses in forest science and management that include experiential learning opportunities.
Justin's primary research interests are in forest stand dynamics. He is particularly interested in forest developmental and successional processes and patterns and forest disturbance ecology.
He is also interested in natural areas management and frequently works in collaboration with public and private land managers.
Research in our lab is rooted in applied forest ecology.
We have ongoing projects investigating intermediate-severity forest disturbances, the influence of multiple interacting disturbances on herbaceous plants, trees, deadwood, fuels, macrofungi, and soils, establishment and maintenance of mixed pine-hardwood stands, and productivity and population dynamics of species at range limits to list just a few.
