The Allred group specializes in the discovery and characterization of new inorganic materials with functional properties.

We are a solid state chemistry group that specializes in the application of x-ray and neutron diffraction methods to study crystal chemistry and to better understand the relationship between structure and properties in a wide range of inorganic materials. Recently we have been studying 1D superconductors, layered chalcogenides, and transition metal oxides.

The Allred group studies fundamental aspects of bonding in transition metal solids. Of particular interest are emergent phenomena, where the physical properties emerge indirectly from the collective interactions among atoms.
