The Chtarbanova lab is interested in studying the molecular mechanisms and cellular pathways that underlie brain immune reactions and age-dependent changes of immunity using the fruit fly Drosophila as an experimental mode

We are interested in studying the changes of innate immune activation and function in the aging organism and how they relate to disease.

We also investigate the molecular mechanisms by which aging alters the organismal ability to fight infections.

Additional aspects of our work include the study of brain immune reactions and the discovery of novel neuroprotective genes in the contexts of aging, injury and infection.

Research projects:

  • Inflammaging and neurodegeneration
  • Immunity to brain infection
  • Aging and infections
  • Brain tumor and neurodegeneration
