Dr. Ying Qin is a social science researcher working at the intersection of research, society, and impact. She supports interdisciplinary teams in translating strong ideas into competitive, large-scale grant proposals that address pressing societal and economic challenges while fostering durable partnerships across academia, industry, and community organizations.
Her expertise spans translational research, technology commercialization, entrepreneurship, and business engagement. She is a member of the National Academy of Inventors, a certified NSF I-Corps Instructor, and holds an Entrepreneurship Center Management Certificate from the International Business Innovation Association (InBIA). With long-standing experience mentoring faculty- and student-led innovation teams, Dr. Qin helps translate research discoveries into viable, use-inspired applications. Through this work, she has helped secure over $9.9M in external funding and guided more than 100 research and entrepreneurial teams in developing pathways to commercialization.
Dr. Qin’s technical training is in chemistry, ionic liquids, packaging engineering, and nanomaterials. She has authored 25 peer-reviewed publications, holds two issued patents, and serves as a journal reviewer. She earned a BS in Chemistry, an MS in Packaging Engineering, an MA in Management, and a PhD in Chemistry, and completed her postdoctoral research at the Center for Green Chemistry at The University of Alabama.
