Astronomy and astrophysics. Professor Sulentic is an observational astronomer interested in the properties of galaxies and quasars. He makes use of ground- and space-based data at radio, lR, and optical wavelengths. His current studies include investigation of the enhanced emission from galaxies in pairs and multiplets. This work focuses on establishing the strength of the excess emission and studying its correlation with the optical morphology of the galaxies. Professor Sulentic has also used galaxy groups to test the redshift-distance relation. He is also investigating properties of the broad emission lines in quasars and other active galactic nuclei. He is attempting to quantify the domain of line profile properties in all types of AGN, and then to use the line profile parameters to constrain models of the structure and kinematics of AGN central structure.
