Theoretical condensed matter physics. Professor Tipping is presently pursuing research in the field of theoretical molecular physics. His recent work is in the areas of spectral line shapes and collision-induced absorption for molecules of atmospheric interest. This work, carried out in collaboration with groups in France and Argentina, is important for the calculation of continuous absorption of radiation by polar and non-polar molecules, and is directly related to the greenhouse effect and global weather change.
