Expertise

Area(s) of Specialization: Host-pathogen interactions, bacterial pathogenesis, cellular microbiology.

Research:

  • Host response to intracellular pathogens
  • Molecular mechanisms of metaeffector function
  • Antimicrobial action of sorghum polyphenols

Specifically, we study how bacterial virulence factors, called effector proteins, contribute to bacterial pathogenicity and the host response to infection.

Expertise: Studies mechanisms of innate immune activation and host-pathogen interactions using bacteria of the genus Legionella.

Subject area: Microbiology and Immunology

Keywords: Biology – Studies use of bacteria to enhance innate immunity as a means to combat cancers and infectious diseases in immunocompromised cancer patients.
