Currently, I have three projects in my lab:
- Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) biosynthesis, regulation, and utilization.
- Bacterial enzymes involved in lignin degradation
- Protein methyltransferases in epigenetics
My laboratory is working to understand the molecular mechanisms of these cancer-related proteins, using molecular biology, enzyme kinetics, protein crystallography and synthetic organic chemistry (to synthesize mechanistic probes).
Currently, I have four projects in my lab:
- Studies of ghrelin acylation by ghrelin O-acyltransferse (GOAT)
- Mechanistic studies of polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) biosynthesis
- Investigation of peptidoglycan glycosyl-transferases (PGTs) in peptidoglycan biosynthesis
- Site-specific protein labeling using SNAP tag
He/She should also have a strong research background in one or more of the following:
- Molecular cloning and expression of recombinant proteins in E. Coli, yeast, and insect and human cells.
- Protein purification and analysis.
- Enzyme kinetics and biochemical and biophysical methods.
- Experience with LC-MS/MS and proteomics is a plus
Research: Chemistry – Conducts mechanistic studies of cancerous proteins, and synthesis of their inhibitors
Expertise: Studies biologically important enzymes/proteins
