Dr. Janke’s current research is part of a larger collaboration comparing organic and conventional fertility and pest management methods in high tunnels and open field plots. Her research is focused on nitrogen availability from compost vs. conventional fertilizers; timing of mineralization, plant uptake, plant sufficiency levels, plant biomass and yield at three fertility levels. Previous research projects have included comparison of commercially available water quality test kits to lab results, and medicinal herb species adaptation to Kansas conditions and potential for development as alternative crops.
