Expertise
My research interests are primarily on understanding how metabolic diseases and drugs therapies affect bone quality. I am using a new model of type-2 diabetic rats to investigate how hyperglycemia affect bone material properties and how can we prevent/reverse this phenomenon. Regarding drugs used to treat bone diseases, I am focusing on SERMs as this class of drug reduces fracture risk with only a marginal effect on bone density, suggesting a change in the quality of the bone matrix. Finally, I am also interested in studying the role of the WNT signaling pathway, specifically Sclerostin, in rheumatoid diseases such as arthritis and osteoarthritis.
