Dr. Bucher has conducted research, training, and advocacy work in East Africa for initiatives related to neonatal resuscitation, safe drinking water, pMTCT, and maternal and newborn health.
Current areas of research focus and interest also include the development of “middle-tech” solutions, such as use of digital health tools to support implementation of Helping Babies Survive programs, and the design of an innovative, affordable biomedical device (NeoWarm) to support newborn thermoregulation and augment Kangaroo Mother Care.

- Global health; medical/public health education in the resource-limited setting; maternal and newborn care; training birth attendants, safe delivery & neonatal resuscitation; prevention-of-mother-to-child transmission of HIV (pMTCT); safe water; monitoring/evaluation of public health programs; sub-Saharan Africa; developing world.
