Expertise

His Research focuses on airway inflammation particularly as it relates to cystic fibrosis and asthma.

Early in his career, Dr. Chmiel did primarily basic science and translational research using the mouse agarose bead model to study the airway inflammatory response and the impact of exogenous anti-inflammatory therapies on it.

His research involves understanding the inflammatory response of the lung, particularly as it relates to asthma and CF and the impact of anti-inflammatory therapeutics upon this response.

In addition, Dr. Chmiel is interested in evaluating outcome measures for clinical trials in CF.

Dr. Chmiel sees general pulmonology patients and patients with cystic fibrosis or asthma. He also performs bronchoscopies for a variety of respiratory conditions.
