His research interest focuses on the regulation of cholangiocyte proliferation/damage during cholangiopathies. Dr. Zhou has recently examined cholangiocytes in a primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) mouse model to determine if they undergo epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT, when liver cells lose characteristics of epithelial cells and gain characteristics of mesenchymal cells) as well as to determine if vimentin affects the progression of liver fibrosis.
