Dr. Hammond’s research focuses on the longterm issues confronting individuals with disability due to brain injury and spinal cord injury, and effectiveness of treatments. Particular areas of focus include: irritability, aggression, emotional control, relationships and marriage, electoral participation, prognosis, trajectory, and longterm outcomes. 

Dr. Hammond's research is informing a transition in the care of brain injury to focus on brain injury as a chronic condition to more proactively and comprehensively meet the needs for people living with the chronic effects of brain injury.
