The long-term goal of Dr. Wang's research is to identify effective pharmacological and molecular interventions for improving treatment of myocardial ischemia. Dr. Wang's research focuses on using animal models of global myocardial ischemia in vitro (ex vivo heart profusion), myocardial infarction (coronary ligation), in vivo and heterotopic heart transplantation to advance the understanding of mechanisms of sex hormones in the modulation of severity of ischemic myocardium in both genders, as well as to elucidate stem cell therapeutic efficacy in the treatment of myocardial ischemia.
