- Artificial intelligence and cognitive science, including case-based reasoning, context, explanation, human-centered computing, neuro-symbolic hybrid systems, intelligent information systems, intelligent user interfaces, multistrategy learning, and introspective reasoning.
My research investigates the role of experience and goals in focusing learning in complex domains.
I am studying this goal-driven learning process in the context of computer programs whose search for information is guided by reasoning about current information needs and by their prior experience--both successes and failures--dealing with similar situations.
