Research interests: land-use and landscape history, institutions (formal and informal) and collective action for governing ecosystems and their services, local ecological knowledge, social-ecological systems analysis, and sustainability science.
His research interests are interdisciplinary and include how local populations adapt their resource use and management strategies in response to global changes and how these are expressed on their landscapes and well-being and integrating new spatial and social sciences tools and methodologies for analysis of these interactions at multiple scales.
