Dr. Canfield’s research program is centered on the development of a human stem cell-derived blood-brain barrier model consisting of brain microvascular endothelial cells, astrocytes, neurons, and pericytes.

His laboratory investigates how varying pathological conditions and environmental toxins can negatively affect the blood-brain barrier in an attempt to unveil novel therapeutic strategies.
