His research agenda focuses on race and ethnicity, culture, formal organizations, and social movements.

Research/teaching interests:

  • Race & Ethnicity, Cultural Sociology, Formal Organizations, Institutions, Qualitative methods

My primary work uses qualitative methods to examine how and why racial inequality persists in the United States. My dissertation concerns the formal and informal rules that enable and inhibit the success of organizational diversity initiatives in the post-Civil Rights era.

Another part of my research focuses on how digital communities and social movement behavior shape public opinion and influence the political process.
