The majority of my research career has focused on cardiovascular deficits resulting from obesity related disease. Specifically, I have spent the last 10 years examining both vasomotor deficits and vascular remodeling in the context of the metabolic syndrome. This body of work can be stratified into two major categories. My early career focused on peripheral vascular disease in the setting of obesity. This work, which employed rodent models, characterized alterations to vascular mechanics, network structure and network dynamics as regulators of muscle tissue blood flow. More recently, my research efforts have focused on the coordination of coronary blood flow with cardiac function under a variety of disease conditions.
Projects in development by our research group intend to develop new and innovative large animal models of heart failure under varying conditions. It is our belief that there are serious heart conditions which can only be fully understood by vertically integrated studies in a large animal model.
