My research interests in human papillomaviruses (HPV) began in 1985 and are currently focused on 1) the natural history of HPV infections, including early events such as virus transmission, immunologic response to infection, and duration of HPV detection, and later events such as low-level persistence, viral integration, and oncogenesis, 2) epidemiology of HPV infections and HPV-associated cancers globally, 3) continued assessment of the immunogenicity, efficacy, and safety of currently-available vaccines against HPV, and 4) development of new prophylactic and therapeutic vaccines against HPV infection and disease.
