Immunology, Microbiology, Pneumocystis Carinii
Our long-term objective is to develop more effective and less toxic therapies for Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia by fully understanding the interactions of the organism with the host. To this end, we will identify chemotherapeutic targets through characterization of the response of the alveolar macrophage to P. carinii in health and disease, as well as the progression of the organismÂ’s life cycle as modulated by its association with the host.
