His current research emphasizes microeconomic issues in economic development -- particularly poverty, health, education, and inequality. His field work concentrates on health, education, and intrahoushold decision-making in rural China. He teaches classes on the Chinese economy, economic plicy in East Asia, economic development, and economic demography.
