She works in the areas of East Asian history specializing in Korea, history of medicine, race and nationalism studies and gender studies. Her current scholarship explores the historical development of modern Korean ethnonationalism and its medico-scientific dimensions, focusing on the role of blood as both a cultural symbol and medical material in the formation of modern Korean identity.
