Lauren Woods is an artist whose practice and creative research focus on the visual and conceptual possibilities within narrative figuration. Working primarily in the medium of painting, her current body of work is an ongoing visual development of a contemporary mythology. Influenced by the grand narrative of Western art history, along with various religious iconographic and story-telling traditions, paintings become a theatrical space to examine notions of gender, sentimentality, desire, power, beauty, and death.
