Research Interests

The development of aggression in children, Media violence and youth

I am a developmental psychologist with experience in working with preschool through adolescent ages and stages. Although I have had training in clinical work--and have held licences to practice in the District of Columbia, Kansas,Michigan, and Nebraska--I do not conduct psychotherapy. Nevertheless, my interests in aggression in children and youth require a sensitivity to normal and pathological development.
Graduate Education, Human Services
I have studied the impact of media violence on young viewers from the late 1960s to the present. In this regard, my research and public policy writing www.johnmurray.org/tele.htm would be of interest to the entertainment industry and public policy specialists.
Current and future research involves using fMRI (functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging) to map children's brains while they watch video violence.
