My research passion is to study exercise as a therapeutic intervention for diseased and disabled populations. Exercise is an underutilized medicine, in part because so little data exists to assist practitioners in its appropriate prescription for specific patient groups. My current research charge is to evaluate exercise for patients with pulmonary vasculature disease. Much of my focus has been on exercise in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a devastating disease of progressive pulmonary vascular remodeling for which there is no cure and presently no effective treatment. My clinical and animal studies aim to define the physiological and biochemical consequences and functional outcomes following acute and chronic exercise in PAH, to permit much needed optimization of exercise prescription for patients.
