Expertise

Her research interests include understanding barriers to liver transplantation for vulnerable populations and disparities in care of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma. Dr. Nephew’s clinical work focuses on both decompensated liver disease patients being evaluated for liver transplantation as well as patients with chronic liver disease.

I am interested in understanding racial disparities in hepatocellular carcinoma outcomes in the state of Indiana. We currently are working on retrospective and prospective study to explore this aim. The retrospective study explores the association between cancer outcomes and neighborhood level social determinants of health. The prospective study explores the association between cancer outcomes and individual level social determinants. We are also interested in understanding racial disparities in hepatitis C screening and treatment, given hepatitis C is the primary driver of hepatocellular carcinoma.
