Expertise
  • Dr Tuuli's research is focused on generating high quality data for evidence-based management of labor and delivery including cesarean delivery, medical complications of pregnancy, and preterm birth. As a perinatal epidemiologist, he employs large cohort studies, randomized controlled trials and meta-analyses to test specific hypotheses leading to improved understanding and evidence-based management of important obstetric problems. He has completed several clinical trials including a trial comparing chlorhexidine-alcohol to iodine-alcohol for preventing surgical site infections after cesarean delivery and a multicenter trial comparing immediate to delayed pushing in the second stage of labor. He has other ongoing trials including a multicenter trial evaluating the effectiveness, safety, and cost-effectiveness of prophylactic negative pressure wound therapy for preventing surgical site infections in obese women undergoing cesarean delivery.
