Dr. Mueller’s clinical and research interests lie in improving the management of children with cancer by better understanding their interaction with the health care system. Dr. Mueller is currently working on identifying and developing a measurement tool for those outcomes that are most important to children with cancer and their caregivers when they seek care in the emergency department.

Clinical Interests: Pediatric leukemias, Health Policy and Health Care Utilization, Health Informatics, Mobile Health Technologies.

Her initial studies utilized large, national administrative databases to evaluate healthcare utilization by children with cancer.

As a pediatric oncologist and health services researcher, research questions that focus on how children with cancer and their caregivers interact with the healthcare system bring together my passions and expertise. Initially, my research was focused on emergency department (ED) utilization of children with cancer which revealed that most children with cancer will visit the ED during their therapy and that there are many reasons for children with cancer to seek urgent medical evaluation.
