Expertise

Research  interests:

  • using motivated cognition theories to examine how people process and remember mediated messages and to guide examinations of message content, particularly television news and humor.  Most recent studies have examined comedic news programs as sources of political information.

My research interests concern media processes and effects. In particular, I am interested in memories of mediated messages. I examine effects of message and receiver variables on memory judgments, using signal detection and calibration methods to analyze memory strength, memory decision criteria, and confidence in memory judgments.
