In this study, cyclosporine is being administered in two different waysto help determine the location of cyclosporine absorption. Our test willsee if cyclosporine is absorbed by J-tube as well as it is orally for thepurpose of administration at the post-transplant period. This is a phase I pilot study of the safety and efficacy of InterferonAlfa-2B in Combination with Nucleoside Analogue Therapy in patients withcombined chronic Hepatitis C HCV and advanced HIV.This is a randomized, multicenter, three month, double-blind, pharmacokinetic, safety and tolerability study of Sandimmune Neoral softgelatin capsules in comparison to Sandimmune soft gelatin capsules inpostoperative primary renal transplant patients. Dr. Pescovitz's laboratory in interested in porcine cellular immunology with particular focus on aspects that are unique to the pig. Dr. Pescovitz's laboratory in interested in porcine cellular immunology with particular focus on aspects that are unique to the pig. The pig is the most likely candidate for a xenogeneic organ donor to humans. An understanding of the pig immune system will be important in understanding and controlling the interactions between the pig donor and the human host. The main target of his studies is an unusual T-cell subset present in large numbers in the peripheral blood of adult animals that expresses both the CD4 and CD8 markers. Within the past year his group has generated a panel of reagent against CD3, CD40 and CD40L (CD154) and is currently using these reagents to look at the function of the CD4 and CD8 protiens in this population. The laboratory is also involved in pancreatic islet cell research and clinical transplantation. Lastly the laboratory provides laboratory support for multiple clinical transplant research trials including those using anti-CD25 to treat new onset diabetics and anti-CD20 to reduce alloimmunization in patients awaiting renal transplantation. Clinical Interests: liver transplants; pancreas transplants; kidney transplants; vascular access; experimental immunology
