The Boone lab is interested in disorders that affect the gastrointestinal tract. Our major objectives are to understand the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD; Crohn’s Disease & Ulcerative Colitis), colon cancer and obesity. Current projects include:

  • The Microbiome in Intestinal Health
  • Intestinal Epithelial Control of Intestinal Inflammation
  • Autophagy and Colon Cancer

Interests:

  • Biology of Human Intestinal Diseases

His postdoctoral training was focused on inflammatory bowel diseases and mucosal immunology, areas that continue to be his main research focus.  He is also interested in the role of the microbiome in health and gastrointestinal contributions to obesity.

Academic Interests:

Dr. Boone's laboratory uses molecular techniques and animal models to study the regulation of inflammation, particularly as it relates to host pathogen interactions in the gastrointestinal tract. His current projects are directed at understanding: (1) the role of protein modification by ubiquitin and ubiquitin-like factors in the regulation of cellular signaling; (2) the interaction of microbes with innate immune cells and (3) the role of innate immunity in inflammatory bowel diseases
