Education Interest and Summary:

  • Electrical ceramics : ferroelectric, dielectric, and piezoelectric ceramics for the majority of electronic applications
  • Microelectronic materials and processing / Thin film science and technology : a fundamental understanding of basic science and present techniques with respect to solid state electronics, characterization of electronic materials, and thin film growth

Since joining the faculty of Auburn in 2003, Dr. Kim has focused a research program aimed at advancing the fundamental science of energy harvesting and smart materials for various electro and mechanical devices along with developing new process for novel thin film and nanostructure fabrication. Current research is categorized into the following subjects: 1) thin film and nano materials to advance scientific understanding and to realize novel applications, 2) energy-harvesting and conversion materials and devices for autonomous and self powering systems, 3) smart nanomaterials and their sensor and actuator applications, and 4) condition monitoring systems.
