My current line of research focuses on physical education teacher education, curriculum, and pedagogy; in particular teaching physical activity to children with special needs and autonomy-supportive teaching in physical education.  

My research agenda focuses on physical education teacher education, curriculum, and pedagogy; integrating affective and cognitive skills in the movement domain; and service-learning oriented ethnographic inquiry.

Alice Buchanan, Ph.D. focuses her research on individuals with disabilities and physical activity. The research has two subfoci: research with children and teachers on the benefits of positive behavior support in physical education; and on young adults with autism spectrum disorder and physical activity and transition.
